Funny how we want to make some custom icon for our USB Flashdrive. We can have our faces or any image as an icon instead of that boring default icon for your USB Flashdrive. This USB Flashdrive trick can have your choice of a customized icon that can either be downloaded or use Iconfx to create you own customized icons. Follow these simple steps to create one great customized USB Flashdrive icon! This USB Flashdrive trick is simple yet rocks!

Using MsPaint to create the icon

1. We will first create a customized icon. A 32x32 pixel icon can be simply made using Ms Paint. To open Ms Paint, press Win+R then type in "mspaint" (without quotes)

2. What we will be doing in this example is to "create" a Recycle Bin icon. We will simply copy its image by showing the desktop (Win+D) then press the "PrintScreen" button of your keyboard. Pressing the "PrintScreen" button will copy the full screen image by which we will be pasting this image in MsPaint later.

3. Go to the MsPaint Window and press CTRL+V to paste in the image of the whole screen. Use the "Select" tool to crop an image of the pasted picture. As said earlier, We will be using the Recycle Bin image as the icon. Crop the Recycle Bin image tightly.

4. After finishing to crop, press CTRL+X then CTRL+N to open new Ms Paint Window and press CTRL+V to paste in the newly cropped image. Set the image attribute by pressing CTRL+E and type in 32 for the width and 32 for the height and click OK. Save the file in your USB Flashdrive root directory with the filename as "my icon.ico" (with quotations ~ don't ask! :-] ).

5. Next is to make an Autorun.inf file. Go to "Run" or press Win+R, then in the box type in "notepad" (without quotes). In your notepad window, copy the following code:

6. Save this file in your USB Flashdrive root directory as "Autorun.inf" (with quotations)

7. Remove your flash drive and plug it back and there you go! :-)

Using the Downloaded Icon

1. Download your favorite icon and save it in your USB Flashdrive.

2. Copy the following code and save it as "autorun.inf" (with quotations)
