Turning On or Off XP's Removable Drive Autorun

Autoruns are used by virus coders to launch their virus via removable drives. Upon inserting our thumbdrive, the autorun program kicks in automatically run any program with an autorun attribute. To be able to disable the autorun feature of the programs temporarily, we can hold down the "Shift" key then plug in your thumbdrive until it will be identified and loaded in to your system.

But if you want to permanently disable autoruns, follow the steps below:

1. We are going to have some registry edits. So please be careful in doing so because sometimes the effects are irreversible.

2.Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Policies\ Explorer\ "NoDrivePathAutorun"

3. Click twice on the "NoDrivePathAutorun" and you should see the default string value of 95 0 0 0, just change the first value 95 to 91.

4. Restart your computer.
