How to Pass TESDA's Computer Hardware Servicing NC II Exam?
Do I need to pass TESDA's Computer Hardware Servicing NC II Certification Exam?
Not so necessary. TESDA's NC examinations are held to evaluate the work quality of our country's technical-vocational workers. But this evaluation however is used to get quality workers by most of the employers both local and foreign. If you won't be keying for a technical job, you don't have to be a TESDA certified worker. But if you want to have a high paying technical job abroad, a TESDA certification is a MUST. Most employers abroad will only hire TESDA certified workers.
As for computer hardware servicing technicians, it is a MUST. If you are a self professed computer technician and wanting to have your own computer shop, you can not register your shop if you or your worker is not a TESDA Computer Hardware Servicing NC II certified. And if you want to get employed abroad, remember that foreign employers prefer CompTIA+ passer or equivalent like TESDA Computer Hardware Servicing NC II Certification. Is there a formula or hint to pass Computer Hardware Servicing NC II Exam?
There's none. Why? Because the examination is not definitely the same but strictly follows TESDA's Assessment regulations. How can it not be the same? Because it greatly depends on how a TESDA Assessor conducts the assessment.
Even though the way how the assessment will be conducted is not the same, the regulations are the same. I took the computer hardware servicing nc ii exam a couple of years ago and now that I applied for as an Assessor, the exam is still the same in 2006 and 2010. Here is a list of how things were laid for in the examination.
System Unit Assembly and Disassembly
Occupational Health and Safety Precautions
- Observe this all throughout the examination
DOS Commands (not the true DOS)
- You will be needing this to install win 98
WIN XP Installation
- Installation of the Operating System in another partition aside from C:
Dual OS Installation (we had Win 98 and XP SP 2)
Partition Sizes and Software Installation
- Changing the default installation directory of the applications to be installed
Theoretical Questions both written and oral
- You will be asked about identification and functions of the system unit peripherals and components, troubleshooting techniques and approaches.
Mock Troubleshooting
- You will be given an intentionally defective system unit and identify the trouble and diagnose it
Networking
- You will be crimping a network patch and connect a computer in a network using a switch and share a network printer.
Documentation
- You will be writing down how you did things in the assessment specially with the assembly and disassembly of the system unit and of the mock troubleshooting.
Report
- Make a summary report of the entire assessment.
I just want to make clear that the list provided for is not definite as what will come out in the computer hardware servicing nc ii exam. But sure it does give you a little hunch how the examination will be.
During the examination, you are required to observe troubleshooting safety. Have your own tools and installers (best if you have utilities and driver packs alongside). Use proper troubleshooting attire. Befriend your assessor - he/she wants to help you pass if your deserving enough.
And to be able to pass the examination, you should have adequate theoretical and actual knowledge on computers and computer troubleshooting. The examination revolves on the aspect of computer troubleshooting, so you must have at least some experience in fixing computers to be able to "see" the real world of computer troubleshooting. For me, file and driver backup should also be included in the exams. As well as employing vista, win 7, and ubuntu for installation. Soldering and voltage testing for power supplies must also be included in the examination. And there are a lot of things to be included yet in the examination.
A newer package of examination should be given by TESDA for the newer computer hardware servicing nc ii technicians but it is also great to have that old package to make passing of the examination easier. :-)
